About our Coffee House

Clay Coffee House exists to serve our community. Run mainly by an amazing team of volunteers, the coffee house is part of Poynton Baptist Church and hosts a program of various courses, drop-ins and events to benefit our local community.

The name Clay was partly chosen because of our use of Poynton Pottery’s custom made crockery. You can book onto their pottery workshops via their website at poyntonpottery.com or by signing up for the workshops taking place here in Clay Coffee House.

The name ‘Clay‘ also refers to the bible verse ‘You Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand’Isaiah 64:8.

Our speciality coffee comes from Heart and Graft Roasters in Oldham. The coffee beans are ethically sourced from Brazil, Honduras and India and have notes of brown sugar, heavy chocolate and macadamia nuts – see if you can taste them!

We love sourcing high quality produce from local suppliers including Poynton Dairy, Bramhall Bakery and Weavers. We also top up our cake selection with tasty bakes from Cake Therapy Poynton.

It's a really lovely cafe. The location is good and parking is close, free for 90 minutes. I have the lemon drizzle cake which was beautifully soft but crunchy in the right places. The hot chocolate was lovely too. My son had a cookie which was lovely and soft and gooey. What let it down for me was the internet, I was unable to connect with my laptop or my phone. I had gone in there to spend time with my family but be able to continue working and I wasn't able to do this. I found it frustrating, but I appreciate that perhaps the nomadic worker isn't the cafe's target audience. It's a good place to catch up with friends and relax 😊

Such a warm welcome from the staff. Lovely menu. I had a cappuccino and a currant t-cake which was lovely. Comfy seating, relaxed atmosphere and nice decor. This is my second visit and I know I'll be here again.
